The Darkness it Could Not Bear
( Not ) a Nonet

Let me tell you a tale of ten years past
of a lantern held high; defiant
against an abyss that threatened
to douse a radiant dream,
yet unable to fight
against self-hatred -
that darkness that it
could not bear
on its
own.

RIP your brain but mine is most grateful to read your writing Amanda!
You’ve captured that fragile balance between light and darkness so vividly. Such a shame it didn't make the word count!
argh, like Stephanie I thought it was a clever visual side to the poem. but argh I knew this was going to be way too relatable! well done and dont worry, approach it with fresh eyes and you may be able to expand the word count!
I love how each line gets shorter, mimicking a flame going out. It’s a sad poem, but it perfectly captures that feeling of self-hatred taking over. Well done.
