The Darkest Light

When even hope casts a shadow

By Ana CarterPublished 3 months ago 1 min read

I looked for light at the tunnel’s end,

A trembling thread I called a friend.

It shimmered soft, a whispered dare—

I swore salvation waited there.

But walls began to wax and wane,

Each promise unraveled and bleeding in vain.

An endless pursuit, a heart at full halt.

In its chamber of unequivocal solitude...salt.

Thrown together,

Together thrown,

An unrivaled despair, a pair deaf of tones.

Floating

Hoping

Dreaming

Scheming

No longer believing

What thou isn't seeing.

Now I wander, less than whole,

A body left, a swallowed soul.

It's right to fight,

Not so to flow

Into the depths of screams below.

"Come if you dare."

I'm sure I do.

I mean, what in the hell do I mean to you?

Dispose of me.

In your endless sea.

Drown forever in silence with thee.
