The Darkest Kindness

A slightly morbid poem about falling in love with the kindness death has to offer.

He offers me a warm embrace on a chilling, grueling night

He comforts me with dreadful thoughts, leading me safely away from the light

Despite what I was taught, I give my trust to him fully

Cracking a smile as he pulls me closer, my soul willfully becoming sully

His chaos is the only thing that brings my peace, if only for a moment

His scowl feels like a carful caress, an island in a sea of torment

Where he goes, I undoubtedly follow

When I look at him, his eyes are gracefully hollow

If there is anything I had ever learned, it is that he is fair

He will take you if you’re evil or kind, if you have tawney skin or golden hair

Death is a kindness equally offered, to the rich and to the poor

I have fallen in love with death, now I sit and wait for him to appear once more
