The Dark of Night

Surrounded by the dark

I lie in my bed,

in the dark of night.

The morning I dread,

then I must rise and fight.

The darkness it hides me,

from what is to come.

For in the daylight I see

all the things I must get done.

Responsibilities consume my life.

They devour all my time.

In the dark I find no strife,

only dreams that soothe my mind.

It is the light of day

that demand my work and toil

but when in the dark I lay

I avoid such silly turmoil

So until the sunrise

when I must resume my quest,

for now there is no compromise

it is time for peace and rest.
