The Dance

The Music of Life

The Dance

I’ll never forget that day in a town far away,

I saw them waiting but I told them I couldn’t stay.

It wasn’t for me to become involved,

I told them as much as I resolved.

Watching from the corner of the crowded room,

Secluded away, lights flickering in the gloom.

A sparse conversation sparked without purpose,

But lure unsuspected, lead them away from the circus.

Music filled the air in this setting so profound,

Where those seeking enjoyment, friendship abounds.

Yet, for some, it isn’t what it appears to be,

Trying to stay out of their clutches, that’s the key.

From one corner of the floor, they approached,

Asking what they would do without being coached.

This dance is for us I’m led to believe,

Offering their hand as an invitation, I wanted to leave.

Smiling I voice my personal decision, my choice.

One to remain away from them at my table of course.

Dissatisfied they turn and walk away,

Back to their perch to dance another day.

It wasn’t for partnership or romance that I came,

But to change my perspective, a different perspective to claim.

At a building over in the crazy city, I ventured,

But only to watch, to ponder life uncensored.

It’s not my place to cast judgment on the lot,

But to see things for myself never matter what.

Different lives of different people I’ve come to understand,

For all of us, life is a kaleidoscope following some plan.

So, I bid you adieu until the next time we meet.

At the building in the city in the same seat.

For to watch life from a distance isn’t the same,

If I don’t create life’s memories, there’s only me to blame.
