The Crumbling Star of David

A work in my series "Between Lines and Colors - A Writer and his Palette"

By Henrik HagelandPublished 12 months ago 2 min read
"My Tears are but a drop" - Oil Crayon on art-paper.

I see the star crumbling

As the people of Gaza

And of Israel

Now promising to tolerate.

A common group of hunted people

Do we not remember

the lessons of history?

Who thought of Palestinians?

.

In a world of right and wrong

It is difficult to point a finger

Always one pointing back at you

But my eyes get filled with tears

dripping down into an ocean

of tears from moms and dads

who lost their kids

or homes and parents

.

The once so proud Star

Fainting away

as a comet’s tail

in the atmosphere

crumbling its meaning

to him who watches

the chaos

of broken houses

broken families

.

Out of the dirt

an olive tree shall grow

It doesn’t care

on which land it grows

but it sucks up all the tears

from Palestinians and Israelis

and all of us who shed a tear

on the bombed earth

where once happiness lived.

.

It will be green and fresh

It will be a child of the

Tree, where the pigeon

First found fresh leaves

When the deluge sank

A sign of unity and love

A sign of love and unity,

In a world in dire need.

A real beautiful poem. Gosh, the olive tree analogy really gave me goosebumps. There is so much work to be done.

  • Your poem was so poigant and emotional. Your artwork was stunning. Loved both of them!

A really deep but meaningful poem, Henrik and a great art piece to go with it. I especially like these lines: Out of the dirt an olive tree shall grow It doesn’t care on which land it grows To me, this shows how far backward we have gone in complicating our lives from the basic purpose of all living things: to survive and reproduce the species.
