The Crowded Room
Written for the "Lost-ish Challenge"
Standing in the corner
Holding my drink
I wondered who I should approach
Who did I really want to talk to?
~~~
Another social event
More idle conversations
After a long day of meetings
I wondered if it really mattered
~
Could I sneak out
Without being noticed
And spend a quiet evening
Alone
~~~
I wouldn't be lost
In a crowded room
If I sat on my bed
With my own thoughts
~~~
Would anyone notice?
Would they care?
If I wasn't there
Their conversations wouldn't cease
~~~
Decision made
It was time to go
Oh, Noooooo!
That guy from accounting is approaching
~~~
Now I'm stuck
In an endless conversation
Pretending to be lost
In his words
~~~
Perhaps it's time to make excuses
Fill up on another drink
Get lost in the line to nowhere
Before I disappear
~~~~~
Sometimes, I just want to be a wallflower at company social events, and other times, it isn't difficult at all. Here is my little poem for the "Lost-ish" unofficial challenge. Please click on the link below to read the other great poems that have been entered.
Nicely done!✅ I’m an extrovert but sometimes feel exactly like this & sneak off home to the company of a good book.🤣
Excellent poem about a very relatable feeling.
I love this take on the challenge!! It is a very clever and insightful window into a specific and often disorienting setting - marvelous work, thank you so much for this submission! :)
I really enjoyed your poem. It was so relatable and packed with an emotional anticipation or anxiousness that felt quite palpable. Well done.
Fantastic poem! Crowded rooms scare me! Great work!
I feel this so deeply. It's like you wrote it about me<3
