The Colour of Taste

By Sally Alker

By Sally AlkerPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

One day I walked past a Lilly Pilly hedge.

Amongst all the green I saw the red.

I picked some bright globes of rosie blush

Thinking what to do, no rush, no rush.

It was my friends birthday on that day.

So I baked her a cake and made it look gay.

I stewed the fruit with orange and honey

The batter on top ‘cause the fruit was runny.

When it was cooked and cooled, not hot.

An upside down turn had the fruit on top.

Happy birthday friend, a cake from your garden.

I stole your Lilly Pillys, I do beg your pardon.
