The Closer You Come

A poem for the star-crossed lovers

They tell us stargazers are fools

But spacemen conquer atmosphere

Only to find that reaching for the stars and dreaming of them

Are two in the same

Fueled by hopes

Goals and dreams of the humble human

Inevitably shattered by the weight of the universe;

Visions they created often gone before we get there

Everyone who has ever loved me has been fooled

I burned bright enough to cast hope through the night

But I am from a planet much further than the stars

Swallowed by darkness and frozen to the core

Long before they got here
