The Catholic Dream Ashen
For Mike Singleton's Gunpowder: A Mikeydred November Dollar Prompt For All Vocal Creators

As the autumnal change readied the world for winter's cleansing
Gunpowder
On the breeze, the strong scent of readied gunpowder and treason
Plot
Fills the lungs of one man who looked and wanted to change it all
Treason
Bring judgment and punishment on the powers-that-be, a lesson
Guy Fawkes
To all who would stand as rulers of this fair land, a cleansing
Hung
King James I, of protestant fame, would suffer, down the heathen
Drawn
But alas, Guy Fawkes and his conspirators, by letter, did fall
Quartered
The Catholic dream did ashen as Rome's grip continued to lessen

Thanks for reading!
Author's Notes: This is for Mike Singleton's awesome Gunpowder: A Mikeydred November Dollar Prompt For All Vocal Creators, which you can find out more about below. There is still time to enter it. I decided to take a lot of inspiration from the historical account of Guy Fawkes and the failed Gunpowder Plot, which is a bit different for me as I don't usually dive into history.

Loved the one word/phrase lines alternating with the longer one! Great job capturing history in such an engaging poetic read!
Intriguing guy this Fawkes, he kept going to the bitter end. Much to be admired. Love the tone of the poem.
Great work and I like it when there are two poems in one. So imaginative and in way celebrating Guy Fawkes Day too if you want to call it that.
Loved your take on this challenges, Sir Paul! Very creative and Paulitical! 🍩🥐
Interesting, I think I’ve heard of the movie.. but not the historical context. Will have to check out the prompt. Hope you had a good weekend! 🙂
Paul you helped me to understand European history so much easier. Now I understand the who/what/why of Guy Fawkes. Loved the setting in your picture, too.
