Awakened to the chill
Winter’s first frost
Fog-shrouded breath
Hanging in the air
Blanket-wrapped and
Ballerina dancing
Across the ice-cold floor
Windows greet me
Rimed with crystalline ferns
Etched, fairy-light
On frosted glass
Beyond the pane
Sugar-coated berries shimmer
Coaxing the Cardinals
From winter nests
The male turns to me
Feather-fluffed
And cocks his head
He sings to me
Gazes locked
Segregated by
My wooden cage
He calls me to join him
There in his wild wonderland
Thus, I find myself dancing
Upon frost-encrusted grass
Adding the percussive crunch
Of each footfall
To his sweet melody
Without words
Without worry
Without restraint
We sing of the joys of freedom
We sing to the winds and the wild
We sing in the silent woods
And celebrate the wonders of winter

A lively and vibrant poem that shows us the cardinal and you singing and dancing. I love watching and listening to birds, so this spoke to me!! I liked all of it but the unusual line saying in “your wooden cage” was wonderful!! Great job❤️
