The Call of Adventure

Freeform Poem

"Down the rabbit hole, then."

The Call of Adventure

There was a door.

There was a light.

An indescribable feeling pulling me

Towards a voice.

It said, "Come."

I turned around,

but a force jerked me

into the other world

and locked the door.

There was danger.

There was bravery.

There was evil.

There was love.

There was intrigue.

There was mystery.

I lost my way;

I tripped in silence;

the voice reminded me

where I was going,

why I was going.

I swallowed the feeling,

hid it in fear and frustration,

but the more I did,

the more my journey required it.

The feeling, I found,

was a childlike excitement,

to do what no man or woman has done

with daring audacity

to be who I had not dared to be.

To be myself,

against all prejudice,

against all judgment,

against all fear,

to be the most human

I have ever been.
