There once was a boy from Nantucket

Who would walk around carrying a bucket

Now no one knew what this little boy had

They only heard that it was from his Dad

He would carry it close and kept it while he played

He would never let it out of his sight almost everyday

And as the boy would run, skip, and jump all about

Not a single item in this bucket would fall out

He would even throw it up in the air and then grab it so tight

Then he would look inside to make sure everything was alright

The boy loved what was in this bucket, that you could tell

If you offered him a million dollars, this boy would not sell

Now after awhile people in the town became very curious

They wanted to know what was in the bucket, and that was serious

But if anyone would try to walk up and take a glance

The boy would cover it up, so they wouldn’t have a chance

And even if you would ask the boy what was inside

He would look at you oddly and run off and hide

Now eventually this started to make everyone mad

From what they could remember, the boy never even had a Dad

So the town got together and had a meeting with the Mayor

They each pleaded their case claiming that this was unfair

So the Mayor decided to give the people what they want

He went to the boys house to get the bucket that they sought

And as he approached, he saw the bucket a few feet from the boy

He was fortunate that the boy was preoccupied with a toy

So he crept up slow and took a quick look

He glanced over the lip of the bucket and that’s all it took

So the next day he called another meeting at the Town Hall

He wanted everyone to get together to tell them what he saw

“Now everyone gather around”, he said. “I know what’s in the bucket that you seek.”

“I was able to sneak up on the boy and take a quick peek!”

Everyone was shocked and was excited to hear this great news

If they didn’t hear what was in the bucket, it was their mind they might lose

So everyone gathered around and quickly took to their seat

Cuz today is the day that curiosity and expectations would meet

And after the Mayor told them, they were all shocked and appalled

Everyone left sad and upset even tho this long lasting riddle was solved

Because at the bottom of the bucket was written one word, to everyone’s shame

It was the only thing his Dad ever gave him,..it was the little boys name!
