There was a cozy little library that lived on her street

that sprouted up wonders like fruits from a tree

from the adventure of a mouse running about his big house

to a man on his wedding smiling at his new spouse

a million and more stories were crafted on the pages

a story for all, no matter the ages

She took up a book, and held it so tight

ready to get lost in a romance of knights

A trade she did make, slipping a worn book in its place

glancing once more to all the stories that were shoved in that space

But the local old grump threw quite the complaint

cause that one book with a rainbow, he found lacked restraint

two penguins being dads, well that was something he could not permit

so, he planned to destroy it, to satisfy his fit

Next, she came to the little library, with books to then trade

to discover the corpse of that old grump’s raid

its cute little box was shattered and battered

the wonderful books left scattered and tattered

she bit back her tears as she looked at the mess

and wonder what had caused such a violent aggress

Cause that local old grump hated one of those titles

and saw the destruction of all as absolutely vital

still, she bent down in tears, and gathered the mess

each ripped open book, she picked up with a caress

that bright rainbow cover was soiled and tarnished

an oversized boot leaving a nasty varnish

she placed it in the pile, and tried to force out a smile

cause while this act of violence was simply just vile

that book with two penguins lay untouched in the grass

they’ll rebuild and regrow despite what had passed
