The Boy Who Lost His Shoe

He didn’t want to be late for school

The Boy Who Lost His Shoe

He dashed from the house with a comb in his hair

One sock on straight, the other mid-air

Late for school and halfway fed

Toast still hanging off the side of his head

He leapt down the steps, then gave out a cry

As one shoe flew off and kissed the sky

It bounced off a bin, hit a cat on the wall

Who yowled and sprinted straight up a hall

A postman ducked as it whizzed past his head

“Strange kind of morning,” was all that he said

The boy gave chase, sock flapping about

Shouting, “Come back!” with a desperate shout

It rolled down the hill like it knew where to go

Past bins and buses and someone’s big toe

It stopped at the feet of a grumpy old man

Who picked it up slowly and said, slow down son?

The boy nodded once, face bright as a plum

“Well,” said the man, “you’re lucky I’m dumb

I nearly wore it, mistook it for mine,

Next time tie your laces, you’ll do just fine

He tossed it back with a lazy lob

The boy caught it, breathless, a well done job.

He shoved it on quick and gave him a grin

Then tripped on his laces and fell in a bin

He got to school, it was closed for the day

Silly boy, forgot it was Saturday

I really liked this one and it would be perfect to read to a group of preschoolers or even kindergarteners for an intro on learning to tie your shoes or a remember when you were young story. Good job, Miss Marie.
