The Boy Who Believed

Anyone is capable of greatness if they only believe

By Erica NicolayPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

In a little town among little people,

There was a boy who believed.

He believed he had special power

Beyond what you see.

Everyone told him he was not a good height,

He wasn’t very bright,

But all this time, he was the boy who believed.

One day, a great fire swept through the little town.

Everyone ran for cover, and some houses fell down,

And among the terrified little people

Of that small, little town—

Stood the boy who believed…and he wouldn’t back down.

With his two little hands, he scooped water

Into pales, and ran back and forth

Scraping up nails

From all the crushed houses,

And quick as a flash,

He put out the fires

With a splash! And a splash!

For hours and hours, the little boy ran,

Till his little legs ached

And his face grew so tan

With the blackness of soot,

And the ash of the smoke,

But he struggled on,

And bravely, he spoke,

“Hurry, friends! Hurry, fly!

Jump to safety! Or you’ll die!”

He dashed up the stairs

Of those houses afire,

And he wrapped little people

In blankets held with wire.

All this did the boy who believed.

And the faster he ran,

It seemed paws seemed to grow

And the harder he worked,

Wings carried him o’er.

With each smile he gave,

It was golden and shining,

And long before night,

The whole town was resigning,

“There’s the boy who believed.

He is what he thought.

Didn’t think much of him,

But boy, was I wrong!

He’s the best of us all,

And he’s a hard one to beat.

He never backs down,

And he doesn’t retreat.

“There’s the boy who believed!

He saved our little town.

He’s fit for a king

With a robe and a crown.

Thank the boy who believed!

For if he hadn’t had faith,

We’d all be long gone,

And he left in our place.”
