I once heard a story
Of a tomboy little girl
Who had herself a daddy
She held so very dear
Who always took her camping
Taught her how to fish
Didn’t mind if she got dirty
Or made herself a mess
Never heard the words he loved her
But she knew down deep inside
Because her special daddy
Kept her close by his side
She knew he’d always be there
To help her build a fort
Play outside, ride a bike
Or wrestle on the floor
The seasons changed
Time went by
Kissed her head
As he said goodbye
He promised he would write
Promised he would call
Promised he’d come see her
Once the storm had calmed
Her wedding day came
But he wasn’t by her side
That’s ok she said
He loves me deep inside
He’ll be back real soon
To make it all alright
For this little girl just knew
Their ties would always bind
Until that day came
She received the large box
So excited to open it
To see what daddy bought
The box held many items
All different kinds of things
Special little treasures
With daddy as the name
Pictures, poems, cards and frames
His little girl had made
Presented to her daddy
All on different special days
There was a letter attached
Addressed with her name
When she opened it up
These were the words that rang
“I’m no longer your special daddy
I don’t want to know your name
I’ll never call or write you
Please be on your way”
“I have a brand new life
“Thats taken me away
They’re my only family now
My life’s forever changed”
She closed her eyes tightly
Her tears started to flow
For it took all she had inside her
To let her daddy go
Soon peace with understanding
She felt her Angels near
To help calm and guide her
Protect her through the years
I’ll be ok she whispered
My daddy had to go
She kissed the box of memories
Said goodbye then slowly closed the door
The little girl was Me ❤️
I wrote this in hopes of helping another. Knowing that we all have suffered with pain from loss. It’s how we choose to heal from the pain, that enables us to grow and become stronger individuals. We do not have to allow the pain to consume our lives. Forgiveness and letting go, so that we may heal to move forward in our lives. Xoxo
