The alarms were chiming loudly
Her end was drawing near
No fear seen in her eyes
Just a few glistening tears
I held her hands in mine
She clung with such might
Then softly she whispered
“I think it’s now my time”
Her end drawing nearer
She just needed to say
“Please cling to these words
You’ll always find your way
Life is not about
How much we obtain
Never about hating
Or placing any blame
Always keep Faith center
Learn to forgive
Don’t hold onto grudges
Bend with the wind
Never lash out in anger
Keep that tongue quiet
Peace comes in the morning
Just give it a little time
Don’t only do for others
Expecting in return
Always be the first
To show how much you care
Always smile at others
It’s contagious you know
Give your smiles away
Ohhh watch how they grow
For when we live for others
Our own wounds deep inside
Slowly generate healing
Staying humble and kind
We’re only here and blessed
With this one given life
No repeat dress rehearsals
To practice time after time
So spend your years wisely
Spreading love from inside
Live to make a difference
Touch each and every life
Every breath drawing weaker
Loosening her grip
No longer the strength to hold on
She quietly slipped
Her words ring loud and clear
A gift she gave away
For I learned what
She was teaching
That quiet somber day
Life’s never been about
All that we obtain
Rather how we become complete
When we choose to give away
