I’ve been dreamin’ of a strange world pirouetting around a majestic globe of fire,
She spins through space to the songs of stars in answer to their cosmic choir,
An orb daubed with land so tan and forests so dense with canopies green,
Monolithic alps rising above
billowing seas and ocean waves aquamarine,
Undulating grasslands, crystallized minerals, friable sand and lush loam,
Spilling over miles of terrain
in abandoned places, we call home.
Winds whistling from limbs and crowns of trees,
rustling foliage vivid and subdued;
Wreaths of glistening gossamer
festooning vibrant blossoms many-hued,
Honey bees, ladybirds, hornets and wasps,
beetles, ants and butterflies,
Sipping sweet nectar and fluttering beneath
frothing clouds and ocean-coloured skies.
Creatures of day and creatures of night,
Traversing deep waters, some taking flight,
Some grazing in herds, some prowling to prey,
In the stills of night, some howling away,
Luminous fireflies lighting up woodlands
as if in celebration of the stars up high,
Birds of morn trilling over
the crickets’ nightly tales as dawn draws nigh,
A lambent moon conducting coral concerts,
Rousing the planet’s waters in orchestral symphony,
As fish, crustaceans, whales and sea monsters,
Sway to the rhythm of apogee et perigee.
She feels with free abandon
the medley of her many moods —
Autumn and winter, spring and summer,
even the many fierce monsoons,
She falls, she’s dredged with cold white flakes,
She blooms, in the warm of the sun she bakes,
She bathes in dainty drizzles and strong showers,
With her seasons her wild essence she powers.
I’ve been dreamin’ of a glorious world and I shall call her Earth,
Livin’ in my dream but harbouring a mortal dearth,
For I dream in colours limited by imagination and sight;
And to witness the glory,
of the true Earth story,
I must allow my consciousness to fully ignite;
As untold secrets are uncovered,
As myriad critters are newly discovered,
Continents explored above and undersea,
As islands of ice sail through the deep,
As I look anew upon rising moons and setting suns,
At the light of a billion sunrises at once,
As land uncoils into mountains to be caressed by clouds with mirth,
I’ve been dreamin’ of the day when I may once again witness the wonder of Earth.
