the biggest no

a quiet mutiny in newark, new jersey

By vye Published 4 years ago Updated 4 years ago 1 min read

the no begins

with downward dogs

and unemployment

and talking into

your cups of tea

the no begins

with shaking

all those mulberries

right on off

the trees

in front of

no one

but squawking

blackbirds

and

your shy pastel

house slippers

watching you

with a sideways

glance

and there you are

holding

the bedsheet

splattered

in blackness

and seed

a choice

you made

at 5 am

remembering

an hour past when

on a bus

you crossed

a rainbow sign

gym shoes

with wings

and an attempt at

half hearted

rebellion

that scrawled:

no

hope

ever

no.

it begins with

bitten fingers

wiping away

the crust

from the corners

of my windows

grasping my cover

on both sides

savoring

the evaporating

warmth

standing

in my shy

pastel slippers

ready

to embrace the cool morning

ready

to taste the real fruit
