You caught my eye.
Among all of the other
perfect trees, the ones that
looked like they belong on a
holiday post card.
You looked different.
The only one like you.
Nestled in between the predictable
favorites with predictable
symmetrical branches and
the military-precise needle
formation. An all-star cast
of Firs full of swagger,
lined up and showing off
their “Christmasness.”
And then there was you.
Compared to the others, you
looked a wee bit feral with
your unpredictable branches
and needles.
I sent him your picture, and then
included two other trees
so that he could choose.
But I secretly wanted him to
choose you. And when he
said “ the middle one”,
I was happy, and just like that
you had a home!
I won’t lie- I was pretty excited
about it. But then again,
we like a lot of
the same things.
You’re perfect.
And when January
rolls around, we’ll give
you a nice send off,
gathered around the
fire. But until then,
I’ll make sure that
he keeps you hydrated.
You’re beautiful.
