not my usual deep thought addiction, but having been a long time athlete, thought I’d throw this into the challenge, enjoy!
when I was in my prime,
would have been the proper time,
to take a step back,
grab a little snack, and say,
“I’m done, goodbye Jack!!”
those years of glory,
that write my story,
absorbing, cherishing the endless cheers,
turning a cheek to rare, haunting jeers.
I came to play every day,
doing my best to win the game,
working my way to the Hall of Fame.
my body endured, but now it’s sore,
not wanting abuses anymore!
and age dictates each of our fates, that’s evident as I walk one last time,
thru the stadium gates,
I exit downhearted, eyes swelled with tears,
remembering those fans, the love, the cheers,
sporting no resemblance to an uncommon beginner,
I live in their hearts as an all time winner.
