The App Maker
Modern Poetry for the Holidays
Blessings are best shared. -Michelle Liew
This season, it's good to remember not to gobble too much, food or otherwise, as we have fun...or receive mobile phones as gifts!
******************************************
Leo wired his world, his screens aglow
His dreams for sale, his cash in tow
An app appeared, so bright and sleek,
“To your success, with just one sweep!”
******************************************
Users fought to snatch the prize
Enticed by gold, and fed by lies
Leo basked in fame, which stretched for miles
With greed in mind, he gave fake smiles
******************************************
He beamed with pride, laughs clear and loud,
“The gold is mine,” he declared, unbowed.
******************************************
But the app stirred, one fateful night
A shadow rose to claim its right.
“With greed and lies, you gave me life,
Now you must face a sharper knife.”
******************************************
His screen went dark, from his world banished,
His heart stood still as his wealth vanished
Leo stared at his reflection in the phone
He pleaded, “Please stop!” with a humbled tone
******************************************
The voice spoke, fading, faint
“A new path awaits, unbound by taint.”
******************************************
This poem follows the Bob and Wheel format introduced by Daphsam who explains its form in her poem, Even in Hell.
