Mixing words together,

looking back over my time.

I should have done this sooner,

better late than never with these words of mine.

Perhaps it's all coincidence,

that I'd felt drawn to try and write them.

Could it be pure happenstance,

that I come from the same town as him?

Is there a better way,

than crafting words together?

It's the stories that we tell

that let us live forever.

To wax poetic, successfully,

something that takes practice.

Not something I'd do normally,

but something that matters.

No wonder that I might try,

coming from the same place.

Sandburg won three Pulitzers,

before leaving this rat race.

Writing has become more important as I live with cancer. It's a therapy, it's an escape, and it's a way to do something lasting that hopefully leaves an impression.
