Forwards and Backwards

What if everything was a lie?

You never cared for me, but wanted me around for the sake of the game that’s being played,

my heart being toyed with in the most cruel ways,

just so you can have the laugh and the carefree days.

What if my love meant nothing?

You saw it as a paper plate ready to use and once the meal is finished,

you throw away the dish,

and I have to play pretend like my heartache that you created, is nothing amiss.

What if you replaced me?

A shattered reflection can always be replaced,

maybe my existence is just meaningless and I’m replaced by a new vase.

What if I can never love anyone again?

My heart has had enough,

the walls have become higher and the material is tough.

I tried to be strong,

tried find the mold to which I belong.

I dug my grave to lay,

since you couldn’t be bothered with enough effort to make me stay.

And so my promise is broken.

All that will remain are the words I’ve written, but couldn’t bare to be spoken.

What if we never met?

Would you have been okay?

Because my life without you would not be enough.

What if this is the end?

We were never meant to last,

but don’t worry, I’m the character in your story you can easily recast.

What if you lost me?
