My Reason For Being “Too Much”

Three simple words that have often felt fleeting in moments so tender.

I never say them “just because”.

I know when the words said have been nothing more than a white lie to satiate me enough to be obedient.

And maybe they are words I say too often,

the amount of times I say it may seem like I try “too hard” or am “too much”.

If only you knew how true the words are,

how much I wish you knew the feelings behind them.

Because I know what it is to never know what those words truly mean,

and I never want anyone to feel that way because of me.

And so every night I will always say goodnight,

but I’ll never forget to say,

I love you.
