That ‘something’ Memory..

Its strands once clung too tight

I suppose you would find these any old place,

Yet this one was a little different,

There were many inside her head,

No, not just brain cells (although that was sometimes debatable these days)

I mean memories.

The truth is there were many swimming around up there,

but one was particularly tricky to get a grasp on,

like a stamp that won’t stick,

No matter how many times you lick it!

Swirling memories of times once forgotten,

Time spinning around and around of beautiful destinations visited,

Beach trips with friends, the first day of Year 6 after moving schools,

even meeting him..

No matter how hard she tried, this one uncommon memory,

this indefinable occurrence kept passing her by.

Did she have early-onset Alzheimer's?

I guess she didn’t need to know, but a part of her did,

Maybe I will find my answer then, she muses,

Everything will surely fit into place,

Perhaps, it is because she once had to remember to forget,

The hairy strands once clung too tight.

He made me laugh this one time, was that it?

Did I play a role in it? Was I to blame once?

Was it a joke?

Once. Once?

“I loved you once”, he suddenly uttered in her mind’s eye.

Bastard!

This was so beautiful and then became such an interesting twist. I love the perspective of starting with something so beautiful then slowly twisting it to something painful, very unique! Great work Grz!
