That’s Life in the Slums
Where people just breathe to survive.

That’s Life in the Slums
Brick walls crack and sigh
beneath the weight of grey skies,
children kick dust, laughing
through alleys of dripping gutters.
The smell of yesterday lingers
in damp stairwellsm
and worn-out shoes,
neighbors trade nods and bread,
hope thin but persistent.
Flickering streetlights hum
over discarded tins and torn flyers,
dreams press against rusted fences
like hands reaching for warmth.
Sirens wail their nightly rhythm,
voices echo from cramped flats,
and somewhere a mother hums
a lullaby stitched with grit.
Windows fogged with sighs
frame a world of the struggle,
every cracked step a story
of stubborn survival.
Yet in this sprawl of concrete,
life refuses to break,
a stray cat curls in cardboard
and a child’s laughter ring out.
That’s life, living the UK slums.

UK slums and US slums are just about the same aren't they. Good job.
This is so vivid and nicely portrayed that even those who cannot relate should understand. Well written!
