“I feel so alone

And my head hurts,” she said.

“I know,” it replied,

“I swim in your dread.

Each dead jealous scream

Is a siren’s song sounding

For me to come closer

And finish your drowning.”

“I won’t,” said the girl.

“I will,” it replied.

“I’m done listening to angels,” she said,

“They all lied.”

“I don’t,” it informed her.

“You will,” she then sighed.

“How can you be certain?”

It asked with blank eyes.

“You swim in my dread,

But my heartbeat’s been dead

Since before you knew of me

I’ve felt it,” she said,

“The hole where the world

Stripped out what I meant

And exposed it for nothing

But innocence shed.”

“How cold,” it responded,

“You think me that kind?”

“I do,” she insisted.

“As are you,” it replied.

She smiled and told it the truth,

“Well, that’s fine.”
