That Escalated Quickly

How did I miss that?

It's nice that we've lived here

eighteen years

yet we still make new friends

with the neighbors and then

find out we have more in common

than we thought

we ought.

New renters with bikes

and dogs, and tykes

daily walks

and talks

trading news and books

ok gossip but, look

we're at home here

and community matters.

Wait.

Eighteen years.

New people.

Wait.

Are we 'that couple' on this street?

Are we the Oldtimers here?

When did that happen?

How did I miss that?

I've been here 25 years and know lots of my neighbours and so many races, it is an incredibly beautiful global street. Love your words Judey

This sounds like a great place to live and I'd love a couple like you guys on my street.

Oh, that’s me as well. Just realized recently I’m one of the oldest owners in my subdivision, since 2008. This poem spoke to me directly, Judey!
