Thanks Anyway Dad
But The World Doesn't Love Me Like You
my pops used to say, "hey, boo, just be you"
and you will succeed in all that you do
now I believe that he pulled my leg
a people pleaser is all that made
yeah, he meant well and he loved me so
and he stood by me where ever I'd go
encouraging me, he led by example
the perfect dad and outstanding grandpa
but I wish he'd done better, toughened me up more
he had no idea what he set me up for
cause NO-ONE can love you as much as your dad
and most folks can't and don't see you like that
so I wish I would have ignored his advice
and tried a little less when playing nice

No one loves me like my daddy loves me. This is a great poem, Kelli <3
It’s good advice but it needs a backup to go along with it. Toughening up is a necessity. Ps the picture threw me off , I thought I got scammed it’s the same one I have on my story “ I’m Broken” which ironically is about a father and daughters relation.
Interesting. I don't hear "just be nice" in those words "boo, just be you." I wonder if you are not now just beginning to discover what he truly meant (or, at least in my opinion, what he should have meant).
So profound & thought-provoking! Thx 4 sharing Kelli!🌸
What a great poem, loved it! 💕It is always wise for parent to love and encourage, but also stand back and let the kids fall hard and learn from it. Life is rough and later there is NO ONE to save us but us.
