Thank You Darling Heart

You are my rock, my strength, my love

All too often I write of pain and heartache

But there’s something important I’m missing,

Through every one of these painful struggles

I find my strongest ally, I’ve been dismissing.

***

My darling heart you have often been broken

But you still carry on daily throughout it all,

Broken, bleeding, bloody and bruised

Still it’s you that holds me up whenever I fall.

***

That’s the definition of true honest strength

As you power on through the ongoing tears,

You beat, you pulse, you soldier on freely

Never letting me down throughout the years

***

Yes you lock, you harden, you hide, I will agree

But that is always from them, never from me,

I still feel every emotion cycling on through

But you will never fail, trust me you’ll see.

***

You forgive when you realise I’ve made a mistake

As I believed they loved me, but it’s not at all true,

You teach me that they mind fucked us both

As they called it love, but it’s just word spew.

***

You never tell me in anger, ‘I told you so’

No you carry the pain while I sit and wallow,

Beating in time patiently, until I find acceptance

Loving me beautifully, even when I feel hollow.

***

So this is from me to you, my darling heart

I write to say thank you for all that you do,

I would crash, burn, crumble and topple

If I didn’t have the powerful strength of you!

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
