To Sir With Love

All it took was that one glance from across the room

I pushed open the door to the noisy crowded room

And as I stepped over the threshold, I came to a halt,

Suddenly I could feel every hair on the back of my neck

Electrified as it stood in shock, stunned from the assault.

***

I stood and allowed my gaze to wander over the crowd

As I could feel both my sleeping dragons begin to stir,

They curl tighter, protective, around my scarred heart

Then my gaze finally locks on you; who are you Sir?

***

I gaze into the watery depths of your sky blue eyes

Where I drown in your abyss, your steady gaze,

Your perfect long blonde hair frames your face

As you capture and tame my dragons fiery blaze.

***

You ensure they approve of the chemistry flowing

Feeling like you and I are the only two in the room,

I slowly process your ruggedly handsome looks

And feel my heart as it opens and begins to bloom.

***

I’ve lost control as my feet move, of their own accord

Following a map trail emblazoned on my scarred heart,

The X marks the spot, you are my golden precious prize

As I realise you are my twin flame and counterpart.

***

Your glorious smile is my morning sun rising at dawn

Blazing it’s fiery rays around me, wrapping me tight,

Your words as you lovingly whisper them in my ear

As I feel them shine and glitter of the moonlit night.

***

My heart has stopped beating, my dragons sleep

Aware that it is you that now flows through my veins,

As I reach you, you carefully wrap me in your arms

And my heart restarts, as you unlock my chains.

***

I’m lost in your eyes, drowning as you soothe my life

Calming both my dragons and black hearted demons,

I’m now complete, realising you are no stranger to me

You break through my shackles and give me freedom.

***

I am your thirst quenching rain, you are my breeze

You are my sun shining day, I am your dark night,

We come together at last, to join our polarities

I am your moon orbiting, as you are my star light.

***

You reach in and loving cup my racing bloody heart

Soothing it as you withdraw all my pain and tears,

You turn your loving light on to defeat my darkness

As you absorb my hatred, my anger and my fears.

***

I was well aware from that initial first captured glance

Where you casually stand on the far side of the room,

That my single days were done, never to be again

One glance, I knew, I was your bride and you my groom.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
