Testing the Patience

Angering a Capricorn

By Shahnee HunterPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

Grounded into Mother Earth, head strong and full of pride

Fighting each battle, no one by her side.

In a daze where everything’s a dream and in reality there is not enough

When respect and hierarchy come first before relationships, before love.

Loosen up they say, let your hair down, let go of the reins and just have fun.

But this must all happen in good time, good time comes when all the work is done.

Because you see time is a gift bestowed upon a goat

Determined to reach the top with any ruthless measures, in any situation, fierce or cutthroat.

Everything is a battle, a tournament, a race,

No contender should join the fight if they’re not willing to get blood on their face.

Analysing every aspect put as a task before me

I know who you are from the moment our eyes meet.

When structure and order is all you see you start to feel a little lost.

Searching for a belonging in a world full of chaos.

Why so serious, it’s just a game, let's have fun.

All talk from someone never persistent enough to say “I won!”

I’ve danced this dance before

Bring your fire and your rain,

I am earth, your water runs through me, your fire flows from me

I can do this time and time again

The more you push the more force you will meet

Nothing can knock me off my feet

I’ve learned to conquer the mountain

Nothing can bring me to defeat

My voice like a drum will thump the guidance through your pain

But if my wisdom fall on deaf ears, you may never hear it thump ever again

The one who serves to help and hold

Now put at the forefront, horns down, be brave and be bold

We’ll carry the light load, the humour and wit

And with every word that spits out so bitterly

They won’t see you coming with that hit.

Clothed in tradition and a sword of truth by my side,

No shield to face whatever you brought into the fight.

With each piece you tear off me, you are confused

If not angered by emotionless response.

Everything is temporary

I’ll waste not my humbleness, for soon enough you’ll be gone.

You cut deep through my insecurities and open an old wound

Suppressed anger, years of fought back tears

No idea of the bloodshed coming soon

A rage that drowns like the weight of a great flood

Show no fear for here we stand alone and there’s nowhere to run

Alone and afraid. Only in this armour this I know

We don’t need to hold their hands, to recover from each blow.

For we mustn’t let them in

Once inside they’ll tear us apart.

Bring down my walls, find my vulnerability

And shoot me down like a fallen star

When the dust has settled and the silence dies

I take a bow and to my feet I rise

Victory tastes like freedom, it’s sweet upon the tongue

A reward deserved for the hours put into working alone.

The sacrifices were made, the bridges were burned

Imagine my surprise

When to my opponent I turned

To lift my head and see

The opponent is me

For no one brings forth more judgement

No one’s knives dig at me like mine

I am my strength and my weakness

The greatest competition in my life.

I am my own fault in the stars

None other would fight for accomplishment rather than heart

The war is not over but this victory is done

We will meet for another challenge at the rising of the sun.
