Tell me about the stain on your jeans,

Is it dirt, or something more obscene?

Why do your eyes light up so green,

When I ask about where you have been?

*

Tell me about what your family knows,

Do they see the truth behind the shows?

What's the reason for your endless lies,

And why does my heart pay such a price?

*

Tell me about the pain you've caused,

And why you chose to be so flawed.

Are you capable of love and healing,

Or is the damage forever unyielding?

*

Tell me about the way to mend,

The trust that you have let descend.

For though the hurt may never disappear,

Perhaps forgiveness can bring us near.

*

Tell me about the white lies you've told,

The ones that you thought I wouldn't behold.

Why did you choose to hide the truth,

When honesty could have saved our youth?

*

Tell me about your mother's name,

And why you're hesitant to take the blame.

Does her history repeat in you,

Is that why the trust between us grew?

*

Tell me about your father's work,

The lessons that he taught and what you took.

Do you follow in his footsteps now,

Or forge your own path with a solemn vow?

*

Tell me about your sisters dear,

The ones you hold so near and near.

Do they know of the pain you cause,

Or are they blind to your hidden flaws?

*

Tell me about your friends in bed,

The ones who shared your lover's spread.

Were they part of the game you played,

Or were they just another heart betrayed?

*

Tell me about your grandparents wise,

And the lessons they taught under sunny skies.

Do you follow in their footsteps true,

Or stray from the path they paved for you?

*

Tell me about what you did today,

The steps you took, the games you played.

Was there a chance to make things right,

Or did you choose to stay and fight?

*

Tell me about the country you hate,

And why you choose to participate.

Is there a chance for peace and love,

Or will you hold onto hate, like a glove?

*

Tell me about that thing you said,

The words that played inside my head.

Did you mean them in truth and light,

Or were they just spoken in a fit of spite?

*

Tell me about what you want,

The dreams that haunt and sometimes daunt.

Do they align with what we share,

Or do they push us further from our care?

*

Tell me about the fatigue you feel,

The weariness that won't quite heal.

Is it from the secrets that you keep,

Or from the burdens that are too steep?

*

Tell me about the depression deep,

The darkness that you sometimes keep.

Can we find a way to ease the pain,

Or will it always be a loss to gain?

*

Tell me about the discrimination you face,

The injustices that have no place.

Can we fight together for what's right,

Or will we succumb to fear and spite?

*

Tell me about the injustice done,

The battles fought, but never won.

Can we find the strength to stand,

Or will we fall to apathy's bland?

*

Tell me about the sickness you bear,

The pain that feels too much to bear.

Can we find a way to soothe your soul,

Or will the hurt take its ultimate toll?

*

Tell me about your ideas grand,

The ones that shape and guide your hand.

Can we find a way to bring them to life,

Or will they remain forever in strife?

*

Tell me about your indiscretions,

The mistakes made without discretion.

Can we find a way to mend the trust,

Or will it forever be a trail of dust?

*

Tell me about the pain you feel,

The wounds that never seem to heal.

Can we find a way to ease the hurt,

Or will it always be a thorn to assert?

*

Tell me about yourself, my love,

The person I can't get enough of.

Can we find a way to make things right,

Or will we always fight against the night?

I heard a lot of early 70s pop music as I read this. Very interesting work, CG!
