Tea with an old friend

what it's like

Grief is my old longtime friend

who spontaneously knocks on my door

to share a cup of tea on my couch

I know they take theirs with milk and honey

I fluff Grief's favorite pillow "death sucks"

and pull out our photos

we laugh and cry

reminisce on old times

use humor to dull the aches

we swap stories and it's like

no time has lapsed at all

so close are the two of us

we finish each other's sentences

sometimes I wish Grief would give

some notice before showing up

so I can better plan the visit

but I tell them it's ok

I will always have time for them

I know that wherever I go,

Grief will always have my back
