Tanzania Tour in Abecedarian

A-Z

Acacia tree hosts the Augur Buzzard, and raucous

baboon families sit on the edge of forests grooming.

Cheetahs chase gazelles and sometimes grab a

Dik-Dik, the tiniest and cutest antelope.

Elephants claim their spot at the waterhole, near

flamingos wading the shore in shades of white, salmon, rose and pink.

Giraffes are on treks, an African Journey, while the massive

hippos submerge, protecting their skin from sunburn, and

impala males show off their graceful lyre-like horns.

Jackals steal food from predators or maybe stalk a

Kori Bustard strutting rather than flying, the heaviest flying bird.

Lilac-breasted Rollers contrast with The Undertaker, a

Marabou Stork, five feet tall, in tuxedo coloring.

Ngorongoro Crater teems with wildlife, so watch for the dancing -

ostriches mating, females spreading wings, the male necks red in lust.

Pangolins, gentle and slow, sadly, remain targets of poachers.

Quail hide in the grasses, but keep your eyes peeled for

rhinos, so few now, protected by armed guards.

Serval cats live in the Serengeti yet are seldom seen.

Tsetse flies favor colors of blue and black, so it is best to wear tan.

Under the Ngorongoro rim, roam black-maned lions, and above,

vultures can spot carrion from six miles overhead, as the quirky

warthogs run fast, tails straight up - but to eat, they kneel.

Xhosa is spoken by the Hazda and Sandawe tribes, the clicking dialect.

Yellow Fever Trees with their golden bark, create a facade for the

Zebra's black stripes to slice a yellow backdrop into golden blinds.

This is a wonderful and exotic nature poem. I loved your photos as well. I’m also a fan of the beautiful Lilac Breasted Roller. I’m assuming that you have extensive international traveling experience. Are you a naturalist?

  • Great abecedarian!😊💕

  • Oooo, I've never heard of a Kori Bustard before. Never heard of the dialect Xhosa either. I learned so many things from your poem! I loved it!
