Tales of Torment: Slumber’s Absence Returns
I knew you’d come back to bother me, but please, don’t bother anyone else.
wake me if you will, slumber's absence
steal from me what you will,
at least when you come, you leave the door shut
still, through the window, cold wind blows
you always sit in the window sill
bringing me the feeling of falling ill
it was only for a moment that you let my eyes shut
i miss that darkness, and its beauty
instead, i lay in this darkness of my room, ruminating‐
pondering an existence where we never met
i would have bliss, in that ignorance
instead, you stand by my bed
your shadow hovers over me, announcing your presence
you bring presents of fear and dread,
gifts you leave under my bed‐
there is no monster in all of my imagination that stands taller than you
brooding over me,
sprinkling in my face, the sands of time you stole from me
this torment, is your only goal with me‐
why won't you leave me be?
why do you keep my dreams from me?
you sing a cacophony instead of lullabies
always reminding me of how time flies,
as you slow everything down in front of me
your voice is a curse to my ears
and i really can't have you bothering anyone else here‐
take me where you will, slumber's absence
walk with me as long as the moon is up,
but when we go, just leave the door shut

About the Creator
Josh Morgan
Personally, writing began as a creative outlet, to be a means of processing and venting emotion, but it has become so much more. Something I want not to be just relatable, enjoyable and a good read, but to reach someone who is in need.
