THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

When you hear a loud horn blast- Take Cover

Children Go Inside and Do Not Stop To Play

If you are driving a car, pull over when safe to do so

If you are shopping- stay inside the store with your packages

If you are working, stay inside and don't attempt to leave work until the second horn blows saying it is all clear

If you are walking in the parking lot, hurry and get to your vehicle and stay in your vehicle until the all clear horn blows

If you are inside your house stay there

If you have children outside playing- call them inside and keep them there

This is an AIR RAID SIREN EXERCISE

In case of a real emergency - there will be radio and television announcements

This is 1953, and post-WWII - cold war AIR RAID SIREN EXERCISE

AND THEY REALLY HAPPENED TOO.

Starting around 1952-1953, the air raid sirens were installed and actively used, and tested throughout the Cold War with significant expansion in the U.S. to warn of potential Soviet nuclear attacks. The sirens were often tested weekly or monthly, becoming an alarming part of daily life until 1970's.

They also had "duck and cover drills" in schools where the children would have to go out in the hallways and get on their knees with their arms over their heads.

My wife said, she never minded the duck and cover drills in their schools, because it got her out of class, and doing school work.

She did mind the air raid sirens at home, because she had to sit inside, and it disrupted her playtime.

Do you remember Air Raid Drills?
