Take a moment

Inspirational? Supportive? Encouraging? Mumblings, Ramblings of some stupid Scotsman

Okay

So

Can I have a moment of your time, please?

You, yes you

Behind the fourth wall

Whoever reads this

Whatever is going on

In your jumble sale rollercoaster of a life

If you've got up to face the day

Held your vomit

Put on a brave face

Are singing and dancing

Trying to smile

Or are crying your heart out

Screaming at the world for the crap

You endure day in, day out

Taking care of your children

Parents, spouse, or lover

Whoever your nearest and dearest are

Even if it's that four-legged ball of fur at your feet

In your lap

or just you, yourself, all alone

You are doing well

Even if you are not

As stupid as that sounds

You're here

On the earth

Another day

Despite all the crap

I am sorry

If happiness, true unadulterated happiness

is eluding you

hiding from you

I am very sorry

I am glad though

You are still here

Even if I don't know you

The chances are I don't

Even if we don't like each other

The chances are we might not

I don't care

That's not important

I don't care

If you smirk at this or dismiss it

As some hallmark piece of crap

I doubt Hallmark would want

Anything to do with this

I'm not going to tell you what to do

You don't need to print a copy

You don't need to put it on your fridge

Unless you're my mum!

You don't need to keep this as your phone's wallpaper or welcome screen

If you want to, fine, that's cool

Rather

I...

I just want you to take a moment

To think about

You

Life might be dragging you down

But every day, you settle and sleep

Even if you don't get sleep, but

Get up and face the day

You tell life, the world, and the universe

You're not done

The battle might be lost

But the war has yet to be won

Even if you don't know the next step forward

Don't fret or worry too much

Just

Make it to lunchtime

Lunch is great

Some people like Brunch

I think it's a bit of a fad, but food.

Then make it to the evening

Start the cycle again

Don't give up

Please, please, please, please

the world needs you

Your nearest and dearest

Not the false friends or blood relatives

Who make you feel sick and worthless

The important people need you

The ones that matter

Most importantly

You need you

Thank you for this, who couldn't use words like that! Really magnificently stated and an ocean of supportive feeling. Wouldn't be the same without that wry humor interlaced. Great work and congratulations on TS!

''You're not done The battle might be lost But the war has yet to be won'' these were the words I wanted to hear today, thank you so much for the motivation!

It's taken sincerely, Paul. Uplifting words matter. I find it easier to get a little blue these days than say 40 years ago. Not sure why, but it does feel that way. So, anything that keeps us connected is a good thing. Cheers.

Very uplifting words for all who are feeling down Paul. Sometimes we get to read something when it is the right time and not before, This was boot to the butt. Thank you. Congrats on TS.

Oh my, I love this so much. I really should print and post it on the refrigerator. Though we don't know each other, it's heartwarming and comforting.

Paul this is just... well, I need to let you in on something. Kristen (Balyeat) and I have a thing we call 'flaily face'. It's a term we use when there are not words - or even emojis, currently - to describe (nor contain) our enthusiastic resonance with the piece (or comment) the other person has just shared. Paul, Sir... flaily face. Flaily face to you, sir. This is absolute heart explosions. Your spirit is just so beautiful (said the comfortably heterosexual male to his male friend). You have given the world a great gift with this piece. May that gift find its way back to you through the endless cycles of reciprocity which are Life itself breathing. Additionally, TIL you Scots (and perhaps other EU residents?) call it a "jumble sale" instead of the odious American term, "garage sale". I humbly ask your Scotsman-given permission to allow this silly American to appropriate your vastly superior term: "jumble sale" forthwith and into Eternity, in place of its far-inferior American awfulness which shall not be uttered again here. Do you so grant this permission?

Another wonderfully uplifting piece, and congratulations! You are the champ when it comes to encouragement, Paul. I love the dedication to your wife (What would we do without them?) and that you put it out there for all of us. I think it's important to remember that we all write "behind the curtain" here and there's no way to know what an author might be going through just to be here.

I’ve been really struggling the past few… years I suppose. Only 20 of them but still, it’s a long and tough road and the way forward is only longer and steeper. Only 12,698 days until retirement, right? But I can’t give up, too much left to do. And things get better, it’s all a pendulum. Some days are ok, the rest are not and that’s fine. One foot in front of the other is the best we can do sometimes, but that’s ok too. Sometimes it’s enough to just keep going.

Damn, Paul. Your heart. It’s pure, so rare. This piece should stay on the top of the top story wall for all of time. It’s the warmest feeling I’ve felt from reading something in a good bit of time. Thank you for this.
