social commentary
There's a rich history of poetry serving as social commentary, intended to inspire calls to action.
America Proud
Don't stand before me yelling who's right or wrong when our freedom gets ripped away; either stand by my side or get out the way. This is America, home of the brave and land of the free, or, it used to be. We have threats at our doorsteps yet we're at each others throats, people talking about our constitution being rewrote. Today everyone is overly offended and most offended misapprehended. We have officers acting as tyrants lead by a tyranny causing mass insanity. It's left or right, day or night, seems like there's always a fight or a nightmare fright. America is in some dark times, but no matter what my American pride still shines.

Gasoline Girl
Gasoline girl, with your fire engine heart You say you can't believe she was running on empty and still got so far She puts out your smoke shows with water words poured from chapped lips, no matter that there's blood dripping down her chin — it's just a free paint job.
