social commentary
There's a rich history of poetry serving as social commentary, intended to inspire calls to action.
Free
Free things come with a price tagAnd we are stricken with poverty. Some of us are so far in debtThat we cannot afford the time to waste. We cannot feed the minds of childrenBecause books and lockersCan't simply be borrowed.Freedom itself is a luxuryAnd many pay for it with their livesAs they've got nothing left to giveBut literal arms and legs,Pledges to a fiat cloth flagThat was more than likely made in China. We spend everything we canOn the cost of livingAt the cost of dying.

Cultural Gentrification

You see, they want us to live in separation, then bring us together, take what they like, then back to isolation. Then, they rewrite the history of our nation, removing the all facts from the basin.

A Letter From a Mother
To protect and serve, they tell us How are we being protected when we are more afraid of you, than we are of the people you tell us are criminals? I tried for my son. The city kept pushing at him, hurting him, to the point he had to start doing drugs. I asked—no, I begged him to stop because I knew it would get him killed… technically it did.
