social commentary
There's a rich history of poetry serving as social commentary, intended to inspire calls to action.
Ode to Aida
Living fully counts most. For this, she denies no one a piece of her heart. Loyal to devotion and most seriously true. She bursts pieces of her heart out to float in the air, riding on sunbeams to reach faraway places, every time she sings, every time she dances, every time she arts.

Melanin
Miss America or maybe should say Mister. I am un apologetically black or maybe I resonate with bronze or gold. The same descendant from melanin souls you stole. See society watches as stories unfold, manipulation, illusions and words untold. Who gave this land to a rich white man? Where does my color fit in in this rich white land? Well history has told us, no history has showed us. This system was built to control us. Where fatality is a normality leaving casualties never casually. Is our anatomy the root cause for these fatalities? I believe this is a social, economical and legal technicality. How does the color of our skin shape our reality? Brown skin, light skin, chocolate, mocha, red. Every color but black comes to my head. I’ll choose melanin till I become skeleton instead. Say A prayer for people of color before i go to bed. Let me close with question and thank you for your time. America how are we free but still slaves in our minds?
