Graveyard Pleasures
Deacon could not bear the death of his wife, Heather, his marigold flower, his little Sun, his universe. She had been gone for three years now, but to him they seemed like three days, not even twenty-four hours. He did not have a child laughing with the warmth of her heart, an offspring crying with the tenderness of her tears, a progeny living with the rhythm of her breath. He only possessed the memory of her existence and her grave.

Pain
Pain, pain, comes again. Waiting, waiting to torment. And so I smile and say "Here we go again. Come and make me stronger." The burdens that we face can make or break us. Out of my Mother's womb, I came kicking and screaming. I lift my eyes to heaven, but slam my foot to the ground, cursing everything that is hellbound. My spirit wanders between two realms.

Before I Begin
Before we begin with the poem, have we poured a glass of water and used the toilet? How many times have you needed to get something done or even wanted to and something held you back? You might even enjoy the thing which needs doing, but for whatever reason are frozen in the act of starting. You find other tasks to do, whittling away another hour, knowing full well that once you begin at the original task you will find enjoyment and gain a sense of accomplishment upon completion. From this place my poem originates. I hope you enjoy it.
