I exert my heat all day long but it returns in her waiting arms
By Daniel K8 days ago in Poets
each day, I bare it, and you are the sole reason I’ll do it again
I choose wage not warmth, blistered hands over soft ones, to give you shelter
I roll to your side warm yet in denial of morning’s insistence
my chest conducts heat along the length of your spine slow and trustworthy
sunlight coaxes you but I pull you into me in quiet protest
my body's your furnace coil your exothermic limbs and dissolve in me
the warmth of this house is not found in stoves or hearths but your loving hands
we merge our torsos become thermodynamics epidermal fire
let all our mornings begin with arithmetic as we become one
horizonless days the gleam in your eyes is my thermogenesis
the heat of our home starts with tiny shoes scattered across the mudroom
