Swinging on the Moon

And Riding the Stars

There’s a crescent moon tonight.

It looks like a hammock, and I wonder if you’re laying on it.

Swinging like a child, crooning like a songbird.

Holding on with one hand,

A rum and coke in the other.

*

There are a million bright stars tonight.

They look like diamonds, and I wonder if you’re riding them.

Joy in your heart, as you soar through the sky.

Holding on to the tail of a comet.

For a trip round the sun.

*

There’s an ache in my heart tonight.

It looks like emptiness and I wonder if you can feel it.

Looking up at the moon, a tear on my cheek.

Holding on to the memories,

When I`m reminded that you're not here.

*

There are no clouds in sight tonight.

It feels like I can see heaven, and I wonder if you`re watching.

Telling me to smile, and remember the good times.

Filling my heart with peace and tranquility.

As I watch you, drink in hand, swinging on the moon.

I had not read this piece before which connects to your Haiku. Beautifully expressed. Well done Cathy. ☺️

WOW! “There’s a crescent moon tonight. It looks like a hammock, and I wonder if you’re laying on it. Swinging like a child, crooning like a songbird. Holding on with one hand, A rum and coke in the other.” I will never look at crescent moons the same again. Such beautiful imagery. I love the haiku, but I prefer this longer version. I love the way you have held onto memories, but also imagined a new life for them, even if they’re no longer in this physical realm.
