Swimming in Place

Exhausted but dry

I feel like a pocket sized dog

Held above clear water

Stroking tentatively

Never splashing or

Actively making headway

Every tilting nosedive

Just a laughing taunt

A jape for the supposed

Masters above me

Holding back my

Forward jaunt
