A bumpy, grumpy ride we take,
On my birthday, joy at stake.
My eyes are wide, my mind afloat,
As through the window, I remote.
A little truck, so small and meek,
With faces worn and quiet cheek,
Among the crowd, a boy I spy,
A hoodie pulled, but bright, his eye.
His gaze, so curious, it roams,
Along the roads, away from home.
I smile, not sure why or how,
But in that moment, I feel now.
The ride picks up, the truck falls back,
Yet through the glass, I see no lack.
Then sudden brakes, the pace goes slow,
And once again, my heart does glow.
I spot him there, a smile so wide,
And as my car begins to glide,
I whisper prayers to slow the pace,
And in that moment, my heart did race.
Again, I see the boy’s pure joy,
Almost jumping with such deploy,
He waves his hand, so full of glee,
A silent bond shared between we.
The road ahead, the world so fast,
But in his smile, I’m free at last.
