the taste of silence has grown on me
that is to say
the silence between us no longer squeezes
instead, breath comes freely, alfresco
not the stale recycled air of your excuses
~~~
the silence is no longer bitter
no longer do I swallow my self esteem
to shine a light on yours
instead, I embrace the sweet release of all ties
I owe you nothing
~~~
this silence is not a blaming, lingering presence
it no longer humiliates or mocks
this silence is unobtrusive
it reminds me of my inner strength, my worth
it holds the empathy of a true friend
~~~
the taste of our silence has grown on me
that is to say
it no longer aches of a great loss or regret
instead, it is a gentle reminder of
my capacity for love
Stale recycled air of your excuses, that was my favourite line. Your poem was so hard hitting. I loved it!
Beautiful words, really love how you finished it!
