Sweet rose of my nose
Ode to Lathyrus Odoratus

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
Then this one surely is a nasal treat.
Though colours bright and breezy please the eye,
Lathyrus O, your scent must win the day.
Oh fragrant beauty you are my desire,
Your perfume truly sets my soul afire.
I'd gladly pluck your petals night or day,
Your blooms, the kitchen mantle to display.
So if, dear guest, you wonder what bouquet
Pervades the house throughout, I say, you may
Enquire, and I will gladly tell you so:
It is the sweet pea's perfume don't ya know?

Never heard of Lathyrus Odoratus before? Me neither, until I looked up the scientific name of the flowering plant popularly known as the sweat pea, for reasons which are obvious if you look at, and then smell, one in bloom.

Oh I've never heard of it before! Your poem was so wonderful!
Love your flowery scented poetry....
Both whimsical and educational, I love this poem.
So wonderful
Smell of summer.
Nothing like the smell of a sweet-smelling flower and Sweetpea is one for that and it is pretty. Good work.
Excellent! I'm behind on your stuff at the minute, but catching up slowly!
